Four men tragically lost their lives on Sunday afternoon in Thandurai, Pattabiram, Chennai, as a result of an explosion caused by illegally stored firecrackers and country-made bombs. The blast led to a portion of a house collapsing, trapping the victims inside. Despite the prompt arrival of fire and rescue personnel, they were unable to save the victims. Two of the deceased, identified as Yasin (25) and Sunil Prakash (23) from Thiruninravur, were reported to have visited the house to purchase crackers. The bodies of the other two men were severely burned and remained unidentified. Neighbours alerted emergency services following the explosion, which also caused structural damage to nearby houses and shattered windows. Multiple fire engines from Avadi, Ambattur, and surrounding areas were dispatched to the scene. Rescue teams worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire and manage the aftermath of intermittent explosions from the debris. The operation extended late into the evening, requiring the use of cranes to clear the collapsed structure. A fire department official highlighted the ongoing danger due to subsequent smaller explosions. According to Pattabiram police, the narrow lane where the house was located amplified the impact, affecting neighboring residences.
