Pranav Adani recently shared his vision for the ambitious redevelopment of Dharavi at the fifth edition of the Ideas of India event, organized by the ABP Network. Adani pointed out the unique geographical challenges Mumbai faces as an island city, noting that its growth relies heavily on improved connectivity. For instance, he highlighted the expansion of the city's aviation infrastructure, which has grown from one airport to two, significantly easing transportation for residents. This progress is a crucial element in the broader redevelopment plans for Dharavi, which Adani described as the world's largest urban redevelopment initiative. With over a million residents and numerous commercial establishments, the project is not merely about real estate; it aims to transform the very fabric of the community.
The vision for Dharavi extends beyond construction, with Adani categorizing the initiative as a restructuring project that could span 15 to 20 years. He outlined that while the actual construction phase may take seven years, the overall development will encompass a comprehensive urban renewal effort, aiming to create a vibrant city with retail, housing, recreational facilities, and healthcare services. This holistic approach intends to reshape the living environment and contribute to the economic upliftment of the residents.
