Lokayukta Police Seizes Rs 38 Crore in Disproportionate Assets from 12 Karnataka Officials

BENGALURU: In a significant crackdown, Lokayukta police have uncovered disproportionate assets totaling Rs 38.10 crore linked to 12 Karnataka state government officials. The assets include Rs 24.34 crore in immovable properties, valuable movable assets such as jewellery, and cash amounting to Rs 1.20 crore. Notably, Rs 83.09 lakh in cash was seized from the residence of one official in Bidar district.
Simultaneous raids were conducted at 48 locations across multiple districts including Bengaluru city, Bengaluru Rural, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Haveri, Bidar, Udupi, Bagalkot, and Hassan.
Among those implicated is V Sumangala, the suspended Director of State School Education, Research and Training at Hosakerehalli, Bengaluru. Sumangala’s disproportionate assets are valued at Rs 7.32 crore, comprising Rs 5.08 crore in immovable assets such as four sites, five houses, and 19 acres of agricultural land. Movable assets worth Rs 2.24 crore include over Rs 1 crore in ornaments and shares valued at Rs 96.73 lakh.
N Chandrashekar, Assistant Director of Agriculture in Holalkere, Chitradurga district, was found with Rs 5.14 crore in disproportionate assets. This includes Rs 4.02 crore in immovable properties—four sites, three houses, and 15 acres 8 guntas of agricultural land—and Rs 1.12 crore in movable assets, including ornaments valued at Rs 60.39 lakh.
Additionally, N K Gangamarigowda, Surveyor at KIADB in Bengaluru Rural, reportedly held Rs 4.66 crore in disproportionate assets. His immovable assets total Rs 3.58 crore, consisting of two sites and two houses, alongside Rs 1.08 crore in movable assets, which include Rs 7.73 lakh in cash.
These findings underscore the Lokayukta’s commitment to curbing corruption and promoting transparency within Karnataka’s government institutions.
