In bustling Bengaluru, the heart of Karnataka, a significant debate has emerged regarding housing allotments amidst allegations by opposition leaders. Housing and Waqf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan has firmly rejected claims that the Congress-led government is providing homes to encroachers from Bangladesh. He challenged the opposition, asserting that there is no question of allotting houses to outsiders and urged them to prove that those affected are indeed Bangladeshis.

Speaking to the media, Minister Khan emphasized that all individuals affected are local residents. He clarified, "Even if outsiders had stayed there and lost their houses, we will not allot houses to them. Propaganda is being spread." He specifically addressed the comments made by the Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka, who visited the affected site, casting doubt on the identities of the residents. Khan questioned, "Can Bangladeshis be allotted houses here?" reinforcing his stance against the allegations.

The minister also highlighted the ongoing process of document verification, stating that local authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner and the Tahsildar, have advised caution to ensure fairness. He noted, "We should not hurry to allot houses on January 1 as announced earlier, and instead take time and do it on January 2." This indicates a commitment to a thorough and just process rather than a rushed solution.

In total, there are 257 houses at Kogilu Layout, with 167 of them already demolished. Khan assured that only local residents who meet specific criteria, including possession of Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards and Aadhaar cards, will be eligible for the new housing. He reiterated, "Is it possible to allot houses to outsiders? There is no question of doing so." Moreover, he stated that beneficiaries should possess valid documentation, such as voter ID cards and ration cards, to qualify for housing.

This ongoing issue highlights the intersection of politics and social welfare in Karnataka, with the minister denouncing political motivations behind the allegations. He stated, "For political reasons, statements are being made. How is that tenable?" As the situation develops, the focus remains on ensuring that local residents receive the support they need without the interference of outside influences.
