The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) undertook significant action on Monday to clear unauthorized encroachments from a public park in the Arunodaya Housing Society, located in Narsingi. This park, originally intended to cover 6,078 square yards, was severely compromised, with nearly half of the area lost to illegal constructions. The HYDRAAβs intervention aims to restore the park for community use and maintain the integrity of urban green spaces.
Prior investigations revealed that approximately 3,000 square yards of the park had been encroached upon, notably by a local individual who had erected a precast boundary wall and temporary sheds over an estimated 1,600 square yards. The land in question was part of an approved layout by the former Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA), intended solely for recreational purposes. Despite previous efforts by the Narsingi municipality to address these encroachments, the issue resurfaced following the merger of the municipality with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Residents had expressed ongoing concerns regarding the illegal occupation of the park, prompting a decisive response from HYDRAA.
In response to the complaints, HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath initiated a comprehensive field inspection. Collaborating with officials from the revenue and municipal departments, the team verified that the land had been designated exclusively for park use. The inspection confirmed the necessity for immediate action to prevent further encroachment and ensure the park's availability for public enjoyment. Following the clearance of the illegal structures, HYDRAA took steps to secure the area by installing fencing and marking boundaries. Additionally, boards were placed around the park to clearly indicate its reserved status for community use.
This action is part of a broader initiative by HYDRAA to safeguard public spaces in Hyderabad, reflecting the agency's commitment to urban planning and community well-being. By reinstating the park, the agency not only restores a vital recreational area for residents but also reinforces the importance of preserving urban green spaces in the face of development pressures. The successful eviction of encroachers is a testament to the collaborative efforts of civic authorities and the responsiveness to community concerns, aiming to foster a more sustainable urban environment for future generations.
